Essential Skills For Mountain Biking

Jan 13th, 2010  Posted in Articles |  No Comments »

With some practice, you can become a wonderful mountain biker. Practice the techniques described in this article and you will be on your way to becoming a better biker.
Anyone who enjoys riding a bike will also enjoy the sport of mountain biking. It is a little more dangerous and adrenaline inducing, but it is quite a bit of fun and a challenge to ride the dirt trails.
If you want to practice mountain biking, then you can hone your skills around your home, school, bike paths, or even park. You may want to find a place with a steep hill so that you can practice on an incline.
Feeling Your Pedals
You want to get a feel for your pedals before you take off down a mountain. You first want to be able to move your foot away from the pedal and then replace it back on the pedal. This will take some practice to get good at, but once you master this, then you will be on your way to feeling your pedals and having more control.
Position Yourself By Learning To Sit and Spin
Sit on your bike and simply pedal around. Keep your arms a little bent and adjust the height of your seat to make sure that your legs are at least 70% extended when you pedal at the bottom stroke. Relax your body, so that your knees and elbows are never locked. This will enable to you feel the right position so that you will know if you are not riding correctly.
Gear Shifting
You need to learn how to shift the gears on your bike. By learning what each gear feels like, then you will learn how you should shift them to make your riding more competitive and fun. A higher gear will make it more difficult to pedal, but will allow you to go quicker, while a lower gear makes it easy to pedal and is helpful when you are climbing hills. Practicing shifting your gears will help you to learn when to shift to get maximum efficiency.
Coasting
Coasting is great fun. You need to practice coasting while standing up on your pedals. Keep your knees unlocked and your arms bent. Learn how to move your weight toward to back of your bike and get a feel for it.
Standing and Pedaling
It is important that you get comfortable with standing and pedaling on your bicycle. If you can lift yourself from the seat, then you should try cranking the pedals around a few times. Do this in both high and low gear until you become comfortable.
Dropping Down
Locate a curb that you can easily get to the top of. At a moderate speed, stand and coast from the top to the bottom of the curb. Do this using several different curb levels until you are comfortable doing this.
After you get these things where they are second nature, then you will be able to ride the mountain trails with almost no problem. With dedicated practice, you will get to where you love mountain biking and it is comfortable to you.

How to Write Articles if You Are Not a Writer

Jan 13th, 2010  Posted in Articles |  No Comments »

We all know that writing articles and blogging are the best ways of marketing your website online for free.
But what if writing articles feels just as daunting as climbing Mount Everest? This can be very frustrating when everyone tells you that you should be writing network marketing articles to get traffic to your site.
In this article, I hope to show the worried marketer how to write articles with some basic steps. I am going to assume that you have done your keyword research and will include these in your article. I am not going to discuss this; my main aim here is to help people with the actual writing process itself: getting ideas and getting them down on paper (or screen).
Getting Ideas for Your Article
This is for some the most difficult hurdle. If you are new to the industry, you may think that you have very little to offer. However, we all have skills and experiences that we can draw upon. For example, this article uses my own skills as a writer to offer advice to people in the network marketing industry.
Make a list of your skills and past work experience. Even a specialist interest or hobby can supply you with knowledge that others might not have. Do you use social networking sites? Your knowledge could be used to explain how to market a business using sites like Myspace or Facebook. Do you have administrative skills? You could write an article on how to organise your office and keep your inbox tidy (I would like to read this one myself!). Do you have children? You can write about how to run a business whilst looking after a family (I’m sure this would be a popular one!)
Another idea is to log on to a marketing forum and look at the kind of questions people are asking. If you’ve ever answered a thread in a forum, then why not expand on your reply and turn it into an article? This is great because you are targeting the issues that many people have so you will get lots of hits.
You do not have to be an expert in this industry to write network marketing articles. Just think of something that you can help others with and work out how it can be linked to network marketing.
How to Start
That white page or the blank screen can look very threatening when you can’t think of how to start or how to put your ideas into order.
You don’t need to actually write proper sentences yet. Start by jotting down your initial idea, and then underneath write down all the separate points you could make. For example, if you were writing about working at home round a family, you might think of these points: working space, time management, communication with family, delegating etc. Each of these will form a separate paragraph in your article. Once you have at least three or four, you have the basis of your article and you are ready to write!
Getting it Down on Paper
Now you have all your main points, you can write a short introduction. This will form your opening paragraphs and does not have to be anything more than explaining what your article is about and why it will be of use to the reader. If in doubt, have a look at the opening three paragraphs of this article. I have started off by stating why writing articles is important, then I have described why this is difficult for some people, and then I have stated why this article will help.
Next, you want to put your separate points in order, and expand on them. Write a few sentences on each one, describing your experience and explaining how you have solved the problem, or how it’s done in your industry or profession. Giving examples from your own life or other people’s helps the reader to relate to and understand what you are saying.
At this stage, do not worry too much about grammar, spelling, or getting your sentences right. You are still just making notes, and all this can be sorted out later.
Expand and Edit
If you have not already done so, you should start putting your notes into proper sentences and organising them into paragraphs. If you are not confident about your English or grammar, read it out loud. This can help you to hear where a sentence is clumsy or does not communicate itself. If you can find someone to listen to it or read it over, all the better. Use your computer’s spell-checker, but do be aware that not every mis-spelt word is picked up here because there are many words that are spelt the same way but mean a different thing.
Try not to use very long sentences. If a sentence is too long it becomes difficult to read and understand. Look for where you can break sentences up, or include commas to break the sentence up. If you really find this difficult, you might want to get someone else to edit it for you. Some freelance writers will do this for a small fee, and it will be less expensive than having them write the whole thing for you.
Once you are satisfied, finish the article off with a brief summary or closing sentence, and there you are! All you need to do now is check it over a few more times and then get submitting.
Now you’ve written one, you can write more and more, and the more you write, the more confident you will feel.

How To Get Up Table Mountain, TheEasy Way!

Jan 12th, 2010  Posted in Articles |  No Comments »

When you arrive at Cape Town International Airport and set off along the N2 towards Cape Town you can normally see a large cloud bank directly ahead of you. Once you get closer, Cape Town’s most famous land mark looms ahead of you larger than life. The question most visitors to Cape Town ask is, “is it that flat at the top?” The answer is yes, and it is all open to hikers and visitors from the Cable Car. How you get to the top is up to you, and there are many different scenic walks up.
The most popular walk, which takes you right to the top of Table Mountain, goes up Skeleton Gorge and comes down Nursery Ravine. This walk takes you across the table top, and to Maclear’s Beacon, the highest point on the mountain. Unfortunately, this walk is not for beginners. With nearly 10,000 rock and wooden steps to climb, and a whole lot more walking besides, this trip should take you the better part of five hours and be rather hard on the knees. Remember to take a lot of water and relax to rub your calf muscles often on the way down. Lactic acid build up can cause your legs to give way, and the steps are often very steep!
For a gentler walk up to the top of Table Mountain, you might want to take the Cecilia Circuit. This begins in the stunning indigenous Cecilia forest and will also take all afternoon, but is far easier. It is also easy to customize any of these walks to take you to the Cable Car station, if you don’t feel like walking down. There are also a number of walks that do not go to the top, such as anywhere on the Silvermine Nature Reserve and the Twelve Apostles.
If all of that sounds a bit too much like hard work, there is always the magnificent cable car. First ask yourself if you could handle being in a London Eye capsule, except eight times higher and suspended by a cable. If the answer is yes, a shuttle or taxi from the V & A Waterfront can take you there, or you can take Kloof Nek Road and follow the signs. The ride up is stunning, with a panoramic Cape Town and Table Mountain view. Remember to bring a jacket, because even if you can fry an egg on Long Street, it will still be chilly up there. The Cable Way costs $9 for an adult return, $5 for a child return and $21 for a family return (Prices in 2007).
A word of caution: the only wildlife you are likely to encounter at the top of Table Mountain are ‘dassies’ – a local rock rabbit. These creatures do not understand why these people are on their mountain, and if you try to pet or feed them they will bite. They have been known to keep fingers as trophies, so children should not leave the restaurant, gift shop and sight-seeing area alone.

5 Rules For Setting Goals

Jan 12th, 2010  Posted in Articles |  No Comments »

Goal setting is not a difficult process but we make it so daunting, like we’re climbing Mount Everest. The secret to setting and achieving goals is to decide what you want and make a plan.
There are important steps along the way that will help you achieve your goal. We will look at the rules that will keep you on the path to getting what you want. When you set a goal and begin working on it, your life begins to change. It is an absolute fact that you can reach your goals. If you set it and follow the rules, you will reach it.
Rule 1: Make a decision about the goal you want to achieve.
This is the step where you will spend the most time. Deciding what it is that you want is critical to your living the life of your dreams. So many of us settle for what we think we can get that we don’t set the goal that we truly desire. This is your life and you only get one go around so make sure you are setting goals that you really want.
The other reason that this is so important is that you are trading your life for this goal. If you set a goal and it is not what you really want, then you are spending your days working to achieve something that does not ignite your passion.
Rule 2: Choose the right words and write them down.
Here you want to become clear about the language that you use to describe your goal. This is not a place to be wimpy. Goals should be clear and definitive. You don’t want to write, Someday I am going to lose weight. If you write the goal like that, you are placing your results in the future. You want to write your goal in the present tense.
The formula I use to write my goals, I learned from my mentor Bob Proctor. I always start with I am so happy and grateful now that…. (Finish the sentence with your goal in the present tense). An example would be I am so happy and grateful now that I am at my perfect weight that supports my lifestyle. I have all the energy and strength I need to accomplish my goals. You want to write your goals down.
Writing causes thinking. I used to write my goals down on my computer but it turned out not to be effective. Write your goals down the old fashioned way, on paper. There is a connection that is made by actually writing down what you want.
Rule 3: Get emotionally involved with your goal.
It’s great to write a goal but if you never get emotionally involved with it, you will never achieve it. This is where visualization comes in. Hold the image in your mind and see yourself achieving your goal. Feel what it’s like to have already accomplished it.
Gratitude is an important component to setting and achieving goals. Having a grateful heart helps you stay in a positive vibration. When you’re feeling positive, it is easier to successfully visualize your goals.
Rule 4: Invoke the Law of Attraction.
If you have written down what you really want and hold the image and become emotionally involved with it, you will invoke the law of attraction. The law of attraction states that energy flows where attention goes. James Allen wrote, “All that a man achieves and all that he fails to achieve is the direct result of his own thoughts.” If you hold your image, you will by law create the conditions and circumstances that are necessary for you to achieve your goal.
Rule 5: Have a Goal Card.
I carry my goal card with me at all times. It is the first thing I look at in the morning when I get up and the last thing I look at before I go to bed. Keep it in your pocket or purse and look at it periodically during the day. It will serve to remind you of your intention. If you put your hand in your pocket during the day or go into your purse, feel your goal card. Your words have energy and touching them will connect you to them.
Our thoughts are very powerful. Thinking about what you really want and declaring it will set in motion what you need to achieve your goal. Following these 5 rules can dramatically change the results you get in your life.
A Coach can help you optimize the goal setting process. We help you to get clear about what you really want and formulate the steps to achieve your goal. Goal setting really isn’t a difficult process as long as you keep the 5 rules in mind.
